My interest in a small homestead

There’s something magical about waking up to the sound of nature, of tending to the needs of the land with your own hands.

I was raised in a farming family. I have fond memories of going into our vegetable garden and grabbing some carrots and washing those with water from hand pump. We would plop on a small cot and biting into our fresh carrots, all under this giant tree that provided best shade to us without taking anything away from our veggie garden.

My independent journey of very very small scale what I call homesteading began with a small yard with chickens and later adding some fruit trees. Each tree planted was a promise to the earth, a step closer to sustainable living.

The small homestead became my teacher, imparting lessons of patience, resilience, and the interconnectedness of life. From composting kitchen scraps to harvesting rainwater, every action was a step towards minimizing my ecological footprint. The satisfaction of preparing a meal from ingredients grown and raised in my backyard is unparalleled, a true testament to the beauty of homestead living.
